The Long view of Faith (final part)

We plant the seeds through teaching, we water them with prayer, and we trust God to bring the harvest in His own time. God is the author of their story; you are simply the one holding the lamp Remember spiritual growth isn't a sprint; it’s a lifelong marathon. This wraps up the series. I hope this blessed you.

And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Galatians 6:9 KJV

Releasing the Burden of Results:

As parents, we often live in a state of high-stakes pressure, feeling as though every spiritual milestone—or lack thereof—is a direct reflection of our success or failure. We want to see immediate "fruit" in our children’s lives to reassure us that we are doing enough. However, spiritual growth is rarely linear, and it almost never follows our preferred timeline. True peace comes when we realize that while we are called to be faithful in planting and watering, we are not the ones responsible for the growth.

Trusting the Hidden Seasons:

In the natural world, much of a seed’s most important work happens underground, in the dark, where no one can see it. Faith often follows the same pattern. There will be seasons where it looks like nothing is happening, or perhaps even seasons where your child seems to be walking in the opposite direction. During these times, we must remember that God is still at work in the "hidden" places of their hearts. A quiet season is not a dead season; it is often a season of deep rooting that will sustain them in the years to come.

Parenting with Eternal Perspective:

When we get caught up in the daily struggles of behavior and attitudes, we can easily lose sight of the eternal horizon. Our goal is not just to raise well-behaved children for the next eighteen years, but to point them toward a Savior for the next eighty years and beyond. Taking the "long view" allows us to respond with more patience and less panic. It reminds us that a single bad day, or even a difficult year, is just one chapter in the long story that God is writing in their lives.

Linking to the Faithful Gardener:

God is the ultimate Gardener, and His patience far exceeds our own. Throughout history, He has proven Himself to be the God of the "long game," pursuing His people through generations of wandering and waiting. When we feel anxious about our child's spiritual progress, we can lean on the character of God. He loves your child even more than you do, and He is a master at reclaiming, restoring, and reaching hearts at the exact right moment. His timing is perfect, even when it feels slow to us.

The Power of Staying the Course:

There is incredible power in simply staying the course. You don't have to be a spiritual giant every day; you just need to be consistently present. Your prayers, your small habits, and your steady love are building a cumulative weight of influence that adds up over decades. Do not be discouraged by the "slow growth." Every time you model grace or speak of God’s goodness, you are depositing something eternal into their souls. Those deposits may not be withdrawn today, but they are there for the day your child needs them most.
